Bizzare: Father Kills Son Over Bamboo Stick In Ahanta West

Benjamin Awortwe Ango, a farmer and resident of Ahuntumano, a farming community in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western region, has been arrested for shooting his son over a bamboo stick.

According to Police sources, the deceased,  Francis Ango, 22, is a driver’s mate and resident of Sekondi-Takoradi, who sometimes visits his parents in Ahuntumano. The father has been accusing his son of stealing from him anytime he visit the family.

“Deceased Francis Ango, aged 22, is a driver’s mate and a biological son of the suspect. During deceased’s life time, he used to visit the suspect and other family members at Ahuntumano. After spending days with family members, he goes back to Takoradi to continue his driver’s mate activities. Suspect on the other hand alleges deceased has been stealing his money and other properties whenever he pays the family a visit,” the charge sheet read.

On one of such visits, the father and the son argued over a piece of bamboo stick belonging to the former to be used as firewood. The father, feeling disrespected, threatened to kill his son if he does not drop the bamboo.

“On 21/01/2023 at about 6:30am, suspect was preparing to visit his farm when he detected that deceased had gone to pick a piece of bamboo stick belonging to him to be used as fire wood to set fire. Suspect upon seeing that, confronted deceased to drop the bamboo stick and this resulted in a heated argument between them. Suspect who became offended over deceased’s actions, threatened to kill him if he fails to drop the piece of bamboo stick,” the police charge sheet reveals.

Benjamin Awortwe Ango followed through with his threat and shot his son in the abdomen, who subsequently died whilst been transported to the Nana Hima Dekyi Hospital in Dixcove.

“Suspect after, proceeded to his room and picked his unregistered single barrel gun, aimed at the lower abdomen of deceased, shot deceased with his gun causing harm to him in the process. One Samuel Cudjoe, an eye witness and other town folks rushed deceased to Dixcove Government Hospital for treatment but deceased was pronounced dead on arrival by the medical officers. The body of deceased now lies at Takoradi European morgue,” the Police stated.

The Agona-Nkwanta Police say investigations are on going.
