Suspend construction of National Cathedral, say Duncan Williams and Eastwood Anaba

Two members of the board of trustees of the National Cathedral of Ghana have called for the immediate suspension and audit of the cathedral project.

According to Nicholas Duncan Williams and Eastwood Anaba, the suspension will pave the way for greater transparency and accountability for Ghanaians.

“Auditors will also audit the overall cost of the project.” “This appointment of an auditor shall take place before the deferment of activities of the board of trustees,” excerpts from the memo say.

“Current activities advancing the construction of Ghana’s National Cathedral shall be deferred until the atmospherics in Ghana are improved and the audit of the Cathedral account is done.”

“Inflammatory topic”

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has said the building of the National Cathedral has become an inflammatory topic in Ghana.

Nevertheless, Ofori-Atta said, the government will find a way to ensure the National Cathedral is built.

“The National Cathedral has become an inflammatory topic… I believe in authenticity of spirituality in what we do but that’s me personally, and we need to find a way to make sure that the cathedral gets built …

“Outside of the government, we shall find a way to get around that,” said Ofori-Atta in an interview with George Wiafe on Joy News’ PM Express Business Edition.
